The Mountview Hotel

We are very lucky to have this wonderful 2 AA Rosetted restaurant just along the road. A 25 minutes walk being the best way to work up an appetite or settle a sticky pudding. Drinks are offered by the fire, before being utterly spoilt by great local produce, prepared perfectly and washed down with wonderful wine.

Jimmy Carter’s Mobile Fish and Chip shop

Monday evening from around 5pm

This clever smoked sausage had the brainchild to transport his wonderful fish and chips around the Valley calling at a different village each day of the week.
Monday night is our turn and he will pitch up for several hours just outside the village shop. Follow the sweet smell of vinegar and the sound of the weekly village catch up chatter.

Ord Ban Supper Club

Ord Ban restaurant at Rothiemurchus was ‘in the family’ for 3 years prior to our move to the Dell. Holding tight to the formula of one of our favourite evenings, we have taken the Supper Club on the road.
At random intervals, we pop up an evening, filled with feasting and song in a marquee on the Dell lawn, by a loch or visiting the great hall of a local stately home. It’s always a truly beautiful evening.

Revack Estate

Revack Estate is just off the B970 en route to Grantown. It has a lovely, friendly lunchtime café with a fresh menu and beautiful views from the conservatory. The estate is made up of 350 acres, with a network of paths, perfect for an afternoon walk. There is also a kids adventure playground.

Anderson’s restaurant

The former fishing tackle shop is now the very pretty Anderson’s. A 15 minute drive away, Steven and Claire have a wee gem here. This brilliant, intimate and inventive bistro uses the best local produce around. Open for both lunch and candle-lit suppers, great for kid’s meals and has the most extensive menu of home made ice cream imaginable.

Muckrach Lodge

Muckrach Lodge, again 15 minutes drive from the Dell this former shooting lodge is now an elegant country house hotel with a very special restaurant using meticulously sourced produce.
With their piano lounge, outdoor terrace and smart conservatory dining it’s easy to lose a whole evening here.

Following a recent take-over The Old Bridge has become somewhat of an institution in the area. Consistently wonderful menus, always a warm welcome, brilliant new live music and the best craic around. What more does one need?
This has become the local for the whole area and always dishes up a great evening.

Make sure you are ravenous before you enter Mountain Café as you will want to eat everything! This Kiwi run café serves up wonderful coffee, a dizzying selection of cake and healthy, hearty lunches. Set in an easy-going atmosphere with great views of the hill, this is an excellent choice for kids and caters well for special dietary requirements.

The Ski-ing Doo has been going since the golden age of seventies ski-suits descended on Aviemore. Enormous steaks, curly fries and a pine-clad après-ski institution.

Chef Allan Heaney has recently set up this superb dining experience, specialising in in-house catering.  Covering anything from intimate dinner parties to wedding receptions and hog roasts to heat-at-home dinners. Big Al trained with Raymond Blanc and in 2008 helped us to open our restaurant, Ord Ban.
As well as being Ross’s best man, Al is an incredible, professional and creative chef and his services are complimented beautifully with the help of partner Ellie.

The Potting Shed Tearoom

Voted by the Observer as one of Britain’s top ten cake shops, please do not miss this one. This tiny café with ring-side seats for the well attended squirrel and bird feeders, serves up tea in proper china cups, accompanied by the most dangerously wonderful cake.  The Potting Shed has also just opened up another cake shop on the High Street in Kingussie.

The Dores Inn

Overlooking the wild loch Ness from the northern bank and just 15 minutes drive from the centre of Inverness, this is certainly your best bet for a lunchtime stop or evening meal. Recently and tastefully restored, the Inn provides a really good menu, with a great sheltered outdoor terrace and a cosy bar and restaurant.

Little Dell refurbishment

We are over the moon to have now completed our renovations in Little Dell. Aside from a spot of spit and polish we have hung up our paint brushes and stand back really chuffed with this quirky romantic retreat. (read more…)

Look what we found...

Well our renovations in Little Dell this month are proving very fruitful indeed. Already we have unearthed a beautiful pitch pine floor and now this amazing granite fireplace. Formerly the dining room of the main house, Little has so much history in its bones and many a banquet in it’s past. (read more…)
